Superdrug: 5 Beauty Resolutions to Try This Year

Back to Trends

We've welcomed another new year, and with it comes the expectation to set resolutions. If you're not into the whole 'new year, new me' thing, then how about trying out something different this year? The idea of a resolution is to make ourselves feel good, but what if they can DO good too?  'How' we hear you ask! Well, how about setting some beauty resolutions?

By this, we don't mean try a new makeup look every day (but if you want to, go for it!) we mean making changes in your beauty purchasing or routine that can make a difference. From recycling your packaging to shopping vegan, there are lots you can do! To help you on your way, we're sharing our top 5 beauty resolution ideas that can make an impact, no matter how small the change!

1. Pay Attention to Packaging

When you think of your beauty routine, how much packaging do you think you throw in the bin each week, each month, or even each year? It probably amounts to quite a lot if you consider your personal care and beauty routines! Everyone needs to do their part to reduce the amount of beauty waste which ends up in landfills, and you can do your part by looking out for products with minimal or sustainable packaging, as well as products that can be recycled.  At Superdrug, we've pledged that you will be able to widely recycle 90% of our own brand packaging to help you with your commitment to reducing the packaging you throw away.

2. Reuse & Refill

Being more conscious of how much packaging you throw away each year is a considerable step towards a greener routine, but what if you could prevent throwing it away at all? More and more brands are taking a step towards offering sustainable alternatives by creating reusable and refillable products. For example, why not try reusable cleaning pads that you can use and wash over and over? Or, how about treating yourself to a perfume, such as one from MUGLER which you can refill after the last spray? How handy is that?!

3. Celebrate Diversity in Beauty

Over the last few years, there has been a noticeable shift in beauty brands trying to be more inclusive in their makeup lines and advertising. Brands are becoming more transparent with their diversity values, by using models of varying race, age, religious beliefs and those with disabilities while on the shelves we're seeing makeup lines expanding to cater to a broader range of skin tones. Although change is happening, many would agree that there is still a long way to go. So, as a beauty lover, you can do your part in the New Year by supporting brands who already champion diversity, and demanding more from those who do not.

4. Think Vegan & Cruelty-Free

Vegan and cruelty-free makeup and skincare have become a staple within the beauty industry, with many brands releasing products to help people maintain their ethical beliefs. If you are heading into the new year looking to reduce your impact on the planet (and to do your part to protect the wellbeing of animals), then choosing vegan and cruelty-free beauty is a no brainer resolution.  At Superdrug, we stock over 2,000 vegan products including our entire Own Brand Skincare lines and all of our B. by Superdrug products too, so it's never been easier to shop for all your vegan needs in one place! Our top tips for switching to vegan beauty is to do it one product at a time; there is no need to replace everything at once! Replace your products as they run out to ensure you are not creating unnecessary waste.

5. Shop Smart Skincare

As we age, our skin changes. What worked in your 20s will not give you the same benefits in your 30s, 40s and 50s. If you have been using the same skincare regime for decades, use the new year to refresh your routine, and learn which ingredients and formulas work best now for your skin. Shopping smarter brings with it a wealth of benefits including better product satisfaction, fewer opportunities to throw away a product that 'doesn't work', and of course, your complexion should look and feel its best! Have you checked out our B. skincare range? It has been specially created to work for skin in different phases.
