Sip, sip, hooray for the new English Wines and Deli Zone at Woking Food and Drink Festival

Wine, cheese and deli enthusiasts should get ready to raise their glasses as Woking Food and Drink Festival uncorks its brand new Cellar Wines and Deli Zone at this year’s event, from Friday 1 to Sunday 3 September.

Located in Gloucester Square and running across all three days of the festival, visitors can browse, sample and stock up at the selection of specialist stalls featuring award-winning Surrey and regional vineyards, and artisan deli retailers selling a range of cheeses, breads, olives, cured meats and condiments. 

Further complementing this new zone is a series of ‘meet the producer and experts’ sessions hosted in the Ambassadors Members’ Lounge, also in Gloucester Square. The short, 20-minute sessions offer local wine producers and suppliers the perfect platform to talk about their products, provide samples and answer questions. All sessions are free-to-attend and places will be allocated on a first come, first served basis; terms and conditions apply.

Confirmed meet the producers and experts include: Anne McHale, a Master of Wines; Andy Walton from Cellar Wines, Ripley;  Heather Dougherty, a wine columnist and judge; Jeanette Simpson from Denbies Wine Estate, Dorking; John Mobbs from Great British Wine website, Weybridge; Mike Wagstaff from Greyfriars Vineyard, Puttenham; Nick Wenham from Albury Vineyard, Albury; Sibylla and Bruce Tindale from High Clandon Vineyard, High Clandon; Simon Hadden from Louis Roederer Champagne House; and, Steve Markwell from Silent Pool Distillers, Albury. 

‘Proving’ his credentials as one of Surrey’s best bakers, Woking-based Bake with Jack owner, Jack Sturgess, will demonstrate how to make the perfect bread every time. Visitors can catch Jack’s free-to-watch bread-making demonstrations also in Gloucester Square on Saturday and Sunday of the festival. 

This latest speciality on the festival menu is sponsored by Cellar Wines in Ripley, an award-winning boutique wine shop which offers exquisite fine wines, artisan spirits and a gourmet delicatessen, as well as being a thriving artisan hub, with regular special events and guests. 

Talking about Cellar Wines’ sponsorship and involvement in the festival, Andy Walton, manager of the Ripley fine foods boutique, said: “I’m immensely proud to put Cellar Wines’ name to this special new feature at the award-winning Woking Food and Drink Festival. The Cellar Wines and Deli Zone will feature a hand-picked selection of suppliers and producers selling some of the finest artisan foods and wines from the region.”

Cllr Mark Pengelly, Woking Borough Council’s Portfolio Holder for Cultural and Community Development, said: “I’m delighted to make two fantastic announcements. Firstly, the new partnership with Cellar Wines to deliver this new and exciting zone, which will be another tasty addition to this successful festival. I will certainly be taking time to browse the stands to peruse and sample some of the superb fare on offer.

“Secondly, I’m thrilled to announce that the multi award-winning Woking Food and Drink Festival has recently been shortlisted for the third consecutive year for the Surrey Life Best Local Food Event 2017.”
